Since its founding in 1965, the Transactions is the premier peer-reviewed journal specializing in American philosophy and its history. Though named after the founder of American Pragmatism, all types of American thought are covered from the Colonial period to the present.
Membership in the Charles S. Peirce Society is initiated by subscribing to the Transactions. Subscriptions, as well as individual articles, are available from IU Press Journals.

Book reviews
The Transactions of the Charles S. Peirce Society publishes book reviews in every issue, covering the breadth of scholarship related to American philosophy. Authors or publishers that have books for review are asked to contact the editor, Dr. Cornelis de Waal, so that arrangements can be made where to send the book. He can be reached directly at cdwaal@iu.edu.
Information for Contributors
Manuscripts should be formatted for blind review, with no self-identifying references. They may be submitted by either traditional mail or email; electronic submissions should be in Microsoft Word or Rich Text File (RTF) format.
The editors will give preference to manuscripts that are no longer than 7500 words. Authors with papers including more than three illustrations should contact the editors about length before sending their submissions.
If your manuscript contains already published material, even if in a different language, please contact the editors in advance.

Specifications regarding formatting of submissions
The editors are happy to accept submissions that do not strictly adhere to the following guidelines. However, submissions accepted for publication will need to be formatted as follows.
- Articles should be double-spaced and use a 12-point font.
- Articles should be accompanied with a brief abstract and a list of about ten keywords.
- Formatting should be limited to what is minimally necessary, like subheadings, italicization, block quotations, syllogisms, etc.
- We require that you use endnotes rather than footnotes. Do not try to format the endnotes to make them resemble the Transactions style, but use the software’s default setting for notes.
- Subheadings must be preceded by a single blank line.
- There should only be a single space after the period.
- Block quotations should be in 11 point and be separated from the text by a blank line before and after the quotation. No quotation marks are used for block quotations.
- The Transactions do not require a specific bibliographic style, as long as the method used is clear and used consistently.
- Wherever possible, references should be to authoritative scholarly editions, such as the Chronological Edition of the Writings of Charles S. Peirce (IU), The Works of William James (Harvard), The Collected Works of John Dewey (SIU), The Works of George Santayana (MIT), etc.
- When copying bibliographic references from web resources, paste it into your document as mere text, to prevent the file from being polluted by invisible codes.
